CX-5 steering wheel shake when braking: rotor thickness variation, not warping, and how to stop it coming back

A rotor with lateral runout gets touched by the pad on one side every revolution, wearing a thin spot. Once thickness varies, the pads grab and release with each turn of the wheel and the steering shakes under braking. The runout usually comes from the hub face, not the rotor.
