Torque
A rotational force, measured in newton-meters or foot-pounds — the spec a factory manual gives for how tight a fastener (like a wheel lug or head bolt) must be turned.
Factory torque specs exist to clamp a joint tight enough to hold under vibration without stretching or shearing the fastener. Under- and over-torquing are both failure modes — a torque wrench, not a gut feel, is what the manual assumes you're using.
